I am not going to analyze various theories related to citizenship. Students of class 9th and 10th are taught a book called ‘Democratic Politics’. The book has two parts. Part one is for class 9th and part 2 is for class 10th. Total there are 14 chapters, including both the books. A chapter of the book mentions that We need a transition from Subject to Citizenship. It has been further explained that Subjects have permanent Loyalty and the citizens are not Loyal to a person, a party or to a government. They form their opinion based on the merit of the policy.

क्या होगा आकाश का ?

आकाश से मेरी मुलाकात करीब तीन साल पहले हुई थी। आकाश का दाख़िला मेरे स्कूल में छठी कक्षा में करवाया गया था। एक बहुत ही खुश मिज़ाज एवं शरारती बच्चे के रूप में मेरा  उससे  परिचय हुआ। वह पढ़ने लिखने में कमज़ोर था, लेकिन इस बात से मुझे कोई ज़्यादा  परेशानी नहीं हुई, क्योंकि ज़्यादातर बच्चे ऐसे ही थे। धीरे-धीरे आकाश से मेरी जान-पहचान बढ़ी  और इसी दौरान एक दिन पता चला कि आकाश दिमागी रूप से कमज़ोर है। उसके माता-पिता  ने इस सिलसिले में चिकित्सा प्रमाण पत्र भी बना रखा है। इसके माध्यम से आकाश को कुछ सरकारी सहायता मिल जाती है।

These days,the first question my students ask, sir, ladai hogi ya nahi (would there be a war or not) ?

I feel myself in a perplexed situation. The answer could have been easy if I could have been a politician or a news anchor. alas ! I am a teacher. I can’t say yes or no.I don’t have the freedom of an intellectual, who may choose to remain silent on such issues. I have to speak.

What do I tell them?

विद्यालय – एक वैकल्पिक नज़रिया

It was early morning, I reached the venue of the training program. I along with two other facilitators sat in the office. Principal queried that what the training is about? The gentleman sitting beside me replied “ Madam, the writing quality of the teacher on the blackboard has declined and we would teach them to improve the writing quality. The teacher needs to have good writing on the board.” It was the venue for the training for early literacy. Some 250 teachers were expected to come, hardly 50 teachers turned to attend it.

One of my neighbors asked my mother. What is your son doing now ? “He is a teacher” my mother replied. Oh, just a teacher! anyone becomes the teacher. ( Vo to koi bhi ban jata hai). He further continued  hamne to suna tha ki dilii me rahkar khub padhai kar raha hai ( we heard that he is doing serious study  in Delhi.)

No detention policy (NDP) – a wider perspective

Print media often reports about the discontinuation of the no detention policy till class 8th. I have found that many people read this news from the newspaper and express their relief and pleasure about it. Unfortunately, draft education policy also states to limit this for up to class 5th. What is this No Detention Policy?  Why do I support it?

आज सुबह मैंने सुमित से पूछा कि वीर क्यों नही आया?  तभी ऋतिका बीच में बोल पड़ी, “सर को बता दूँ?” फिर चुप हो गई….. मैंने ज़िद की तो फिर बोली कि सर,  कल न… वीर को पुलिस ले गई थी। फिर सुमित बताने लगा,” सर! उसने न चोरी की थी| कल कुछ बच्चों ने मिलकर दुकान से कुछ चुराने की  कोशिश की और  पकड़े जाने पर एक ने बाकी  बच्चों के नाम भी बता दिए। सुमित कहने लगा कि सर… मेरा भी नाम दिया था, पुलिस ने मुझे दो थप्पर लगाया। सुमित ने बताया कि वह नही जाता है चोरी करने।

मैंने फिर पूछा कि और कौन जाते हैं अपने क्लास से चोरी करने? सुमित ने वीर, रोहन तथा आकाश का नाम लिया।

एक बार पढ़ने पढ़ाने के तरीके पर चर्चा करते समय शिक्षाविद प्रोफेसर कृष्ण कुमार अवधारणा का प्रश्न उठाते हैं कि एक शिक्षक के नाते शिक्षण प्रक्रिया में हम इसे कितना महत्व देते हैं , या कितना देना चाहिए। ‘अवधारणा’ किसी भी विषय को समझने-समझाने का प्राथमिक पैमाना है। यह एक सहज, प्राकृतिक व अनिवार्य शर्त है – शिक्षण प्रक्रिया की। उतनी ही सहज जैसे वृक्ष कहते ही हरी पत्तियों से लदा एक तना मिट्टी में अपनी जड़ जमाए दिख जाए । पर क्या हम अपनी शिक्षण प्रक्रिया में इसे इसी रूप में समाहित कर पाते हैं ?
